So tonight I went down to Start The Bus in centre of town to check out a young American trio who have making waves over twitter Jacuzzi Boys. I had been seeing some of my friends had been raving about these guys and I have to admit I was quite impressed by what I saw.
What the Miami trio served up was a well worked brew of slacker unhinged garage rock songs that could more then passingly draw on comparisons to the likes of Wavves, Night Beats and to a certain extent Black Lips. It was actually the singer guitarist from the Night Beats who told me and my friends to keep an eye out for Jacuzzi Boys.
The bands delivery felt like it was lovingly well drilled to fit comfortably within the bands aesthetics, delivering sharp driven high end riffs and winding guitar solo’s. Taking in some of the stodgy elements of the whole slacker rock feel but giving it a not entirely original but yet highly authentic feel.
Tonight’s show was very sparsely attended as most of the free entry shows in Start The Bus tend to be, unless you have a band that have a relatively sizeable reputation. but this didn’t really stop the boys from giving it their all, it felt like the teenage slacker in me had just been let out of its cage. the sound caused me to bounce around with enthusiastic energy.
I think everything that can be said about the Jacuzzi Boys stylistically can be summed up in the song Domino Moon, with the high end guitars and the softened stoner vocals near perfectly capture the whole slacker youth movement in the states.
