Chile is a south American country that is steeped with history, musical influence that is felt well beyond its borders, especially when it comes to the more psychedelic genres of music and the fact that they have produced one of psychedelic rocks leading lights Carlos Santanna and the political imagery of Che Guevara. Chile can now add The Holydrug Couple to their list. The ‘Couple’ in question are Ives Sepulveda and Manuel Parra and they create the kind of hazy look back on the likes of Love, The Byrds and The Velvet Underground.
Its Dawning is the latest single to be taken from the bands debut album Noctuary which was released earlier this year to mas critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, NME and various other fanzines and magazines. Dawning does feel like the sound of a band who have been up all night and watching the sun rise. The reverberation on the intro feels quite comforting, giving way to hazy melodies looking at the softer side of psychedelia, like in the days of early Pink Floyd, there is something quite Syde Barrat like being mixed in with a classic Arthur Lee feel. Its Dawning feels very atmospheric and deeply beautiful. Definte song for the hazy days with the jazz grooves subtle swirlings make this a very hypnotic listening experience.
