Black Yaya is the latest solo project from David Ivar, who is better known for being one half of French experimental pop Herman Dune. This see’s David take inspirations from his work in Herman Dune and tackle the dark subjects such as Murder, Loss and Revenge hiding it behind big gleeming pop hooks.
Right from the Off Paint A Smile On Me has the classic big pop feel that so many French bands have adopted mixed in with Ivar’s bleak lyrical word plays taking on loss. Everything about this song feels like it was shrink wrapped in in 1970’s with its disco styled clod hopping 4 to the floor style beats and the honking Hammond organ sounds. The Vocals feel big and fuzzy with a classic string section sound bring the chorus to life.
Everything about this song feels very much like a summer anthem, it fuzzses with life and makes for a great taster for what is to come from the album when it comes out!
