Lapalux is the first UK signing to Flying Lotus’s record label Brainfeeder records, the home to some of the most promising electronic music such as Gaslamp Killer, Samiam and Teebs. It has also been responsible for some of Flying Lotus’s exciting releases.
Without You is Lapalux’s debut single, which is perfectly matched by a darkly atmospheric video that seems to draw much of influence from the video to Massive Attacks video Protection, with the main character in the video being a female protagonist seemingly wander around people’s serves alternate dreams. Right front the off it is quite unsettling added with Lapalux’s dark woven melodies bringing out an eerie calm.
there definite comparisons that can be drawn between some Flying Lotus’s early work and that of James Blake. It’s the kind of song that really plays on the spaces in-between the musical layers that gives it an almost fragile emotional wall. The cut up vocals build beautifully waving between male and female tones in a kind of Tricky tone. As with so many things its subtle nature of the track that captures the ear.
This is an impressive debut from a young producer!
