Over this weekend I fell in love with this song from a band called The History of Apple Pie, I was introduced to this song by a couple of my best friends who had recently got engaged, introducing me to this song over twitter whilst having a conversation tweeting alternative love songs like True Love Will Find You In The End.
I have been aware of this band for a while, but never really got around to listening to any of their stuff, due to the fact that I don’t really listen to a band until I have seen them live. its like as if waiting to see if the proof is in the proverbial pudding. So I may well be about a million years behind all the typical press hype sort of thing. I went and saw them squeeze onto the top deck at the Thekla and they were great, of course I was bouncing up and down like Tigger on a sugar overdose bouncing and playing air drums. Do It Wrong was probably my favourite song.
From the off it felt like as if there was a tick sheet of alt rock and accidental brit pop bands. with a song like Do It Wrong you can hear notable nods towards the likes of Lush, My Bloody Valentine, Throwing Muses through to Veronica Falls. Do it wrong is a basically an awkward love song that to me brings back some reminiscent of an amped up version of Lush’s 500 (Shake Baby shake). I can kind of imagine Miki Berenyl co-ing shake baby shake over the top of this along with Kevin Shields on guitar.
I think there is something i kind of relate to in the song lyrics, especially with the chorus hook of don’t be shy which is something I have to tell myself a lot, because of naturally being a quite awkward person.
Do It Wrong is taken from the band’s debut album Out Of View which is available in all record stores and itunes all the usual places!
I was rocking out next to you Big Man; here’s my review on my blog, think I mentioned you in it… http://www.gigbook.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/871-history-of-apple-pie-duck-house.html
