Ok I may not be the fastest person on the blogosphere and there has been probably 1000’s of people who have blogged about this very video, a short film for When the Quiet Comes by Flying Lotus. a beautifully shot and emotionally poetic piece of film making Using Flying lotus’ music to tell the abstract story gangland drama.
Right from the off it details the emotional interaction of the characters and the environment they have grown up in, it deals with the whole level of realism with really redefined characters proving that pictures can speak a thousand words. What is beautiful is seeing the characters interactions played out 3 mins plus of the film.
Everything is playing along perfectly to Flying Lotus’s melodic ambience, There is a beautiful shot at the beginning of a girl in an empty swimming pool just as she gets shot, the floating vocals make the drama quite haunting. It has to be said the choreography is nothing short of stunning, especially the part with the soul exiting the body celebrating freedom.
This shows real progress for an artist that I have seen a bunch of times in Bristol, the first time being way back in 2008 at Venn festival on board the Thekla when he played to a hand full of people, I swear he had and probably still has Superman’s fingers because he was working things out on the spot. It’s always watching someone like Flylo because at times you can see exactly what he is thinking, blending melodies in with nods to the old Bristol trip hop sound keeping everything proverbially fresh.
