This is the latest single from Bristol/Bath based experimental noise trio Thought Forms, a band which I have watched grow over the past six or so years. its fair to say they are a truly thrilling live band, a complete sonic tour de force. Growing from minimalist post rock, through to Space rock psychedelia and to the more poppier yelds of which Only Hollow bares its fruit.
Only Hollow sounds like the lost recording of a classic Sonic Youth track, or the best song that Subpop never released. Big thick scuzzy guitars laden with a Kim Deal style vocal, rhythmic drumming which drives the song like a 90 mile an hour thrill ride. within this and the way that the band have played around then they have accidentally dug up the source that the current crop of regurgitated grunge bands seem to have left out.
I can see why the likes of Steve Lamacque have fallen in love with Only Hollow as it would act as a timely reminder of why independent labels have been so fruitful in un earthing the great undiscovered. I can also imagine the Late great John Peele reveling in the song, probably describing it as some sort of wonderful Sonic delight. in other words it is absolutely blistering.
