One of the bands that really burst onto the live scene with am huge aplomb and one of the nominees for BBC Sound Of 2013 were all female alternative rockers Savages. They pretty much kicked off with a huge hiss and fuss off with word of mouth Twitter argument, this is something that goes to show that you can use social media like twitter can act as a good promotion tool, just so long as you have something to back it up with.
The reason why Savages have been picked up is because they deliver something the mainstream has lacked for quite a while, that being an angry expressive female voice with big sounding guitars. Ok they do owe a lot to the late 70s early 80s post punk bands such as Joy Division (They probably get this comparison quite a lot, it’s a pretty easy comparison to make), Wire and Souxsie And The Banshees, but there is also nods of more recent bands like Electrelane. This is everything that the band displayed in their first single Husbands, big screaming guitars, cold beats, chest thumping bass and haunted vocals.
If you have made it out to any one of Savages live shows you will know that they are a quite an intense sonic force to deal with as this video of their performance on Jools Holland. I’ve seen them 4 times so far and have found myself completely lost in their kinetic energy. Husbands has pretty much benn the soundtrack the latter half of 2012 for me.
I await for their debut album with abated breath!
Keep on writing, great job!
