Get The Blessing are one of the bands that are very much on the forefront of the new age Jazz movement, along with the likes of Acoustic Ladyland, Portico Quartet and The Bad+. At the core of the band is the rhythm section that helped make Portishead the live force, that being Clive Deamer and Jim Barr.
The Bristol based quartet are one of a few jazz bands that have showed real pioneering spirit, taking elements of Jazz’s previous masters like the later day Miles Davis (when he played around with Psychedelic rock experimentations) and maybe even a hint of Sun Ra’s afro beatism. its hard t escape any contemporary Jazz band without a hint or 2 of Miles Davis.
where they sit sound wise somewhere on the balancing scales somewhere between the aforementioned Acoustic Ladyland and Portico Quartet, in playing melodic and at times psychedelic Jazz with heavy brooding post punk bass lines something which really comes too the fore front n OCDC the tittle track from their second album, along with the bouncing of melodic ideas in-between saxophone and trumpet is something pretty special, especially when you are watching it being performed live in front of your face.
