Christine Leakey – Lovely

One of my favourite video discoveries of this year has been this sweet little number from little known Canadian experimental singer songwriter Christine Leakey. Its one of those songs where the song title sums up everything you expect it to be and that is Lovely.

It’s like as if she has taken some of the DNA from Minnie Rippertons Les Fluers and tried to ram it in a specimen jar with Kate Bush’s DNA strands. Ultimately everything about this song is big and colourful with luscious sounds. It almost bounces along with a calypso feel serenaded by strings, Flute, piano and very subtle guitar lines.

The video its self feels like as if Christine is welcoming us into her magical kingdom, lots bright colours, clips of vintage black and white films merged together.  It is very dreamy and kind of makes me want to run off into her world and sing with her. It is Lovely by name and Lovely by nature.

About bigjeffbristol

I am someone from Bristol in England who is deeply obsessed with live music! its pretty much like an OCD styled obsession that means pretty much every night I am out. I like being down the fron for shows, because then I can feel the music pulsing through me and I am not going to lie to you, I like to dance a lot. Which can make me at times incredibly annoying because of being 6ft4 tall with blonde curly locks so I am the Thoroughly Annoying Blonde!. and I like to preach my geeky musical inertia to people!
