TASHAKI MIYAKI

So a couple of weeks ago, i made a post about an act I had discovered on my youtube adventures called Computer Magic, so I thought I would do another post about another band that I actually came across on the same day.

Some of you may well know that i am a complete sucker for american sounding lofi indie shoegaze, I cant always say what it is I like about that sort of music I guess I kind of like the 60’s psychedelic fuzzy sunshine feel. This is something that Tashaki Miyaki do with little fuss.

Tashaki Miyaki are a couple from LA, who seem to submerge themselves into what could be described as a very un rushed lofi daze kind of sound, full of warm melodies. Its almost like the perfect soft sounds to put grins on.

I must admit I dont know that much about Tashaki Miyaki, other then they  are a couple who like to make songs about the darker side of life. generating fuzz guitars and well warn sounding vocals, kicking a lush atmospheric feel, squals of guitars.

It has a reminiscent sound of Creation records Jesus and Marychain, when they were really going off on a tangent like a modern day Velvet Underground trickling around with Camera Obscura drowning in reverb and discordant.

bare and simple drum beats under pin the waves of guitar squals that paint the picture of being on sunny beach having the waves lapping around your feet, or acting as the perfect asvert for Zoey Deschanel, to do one of her indie rom-coms. infact I can just imagine her wide eyed stare pouting, whilst whacking this on a mix tape.

Its the sublime subtlety in the lyrics acting as a reassuring buffer, persuading everyone its going to be alright, no matter what ever storms they maybe facing. It is like as if Beach House went on a loved up happy trip, because even though there is a sense that they are trying to reassure us that, there is something probably darker lurking in the background.

Unlike a lot of other bands who are  thrusting themselves into the limelight on the internet,  vocalist Tashaki and guitarist Miyaki seem to be intent on spreading things out via word of mouth, generating a mysteriousness about them.

I can imagine them being quite quiet people and not wanting to build up to much hype, settling for the quiet simplicity. You know not wanting worry about rushing things as their sound can be described as having a kind of blissed out leniency and smoke fueled dreams.

Twisting their own brand around renovated covers of 60’s classics done in such a way that they have not lost any of the charm of the the originals. Their cover of the Everly Brothers all I Have To Do Is Dream, sounds quite positively dream like. and their sonic drenching of Buddy Holly’s Heartbeat just reminds me of a plush summers day.

The fact that they have released one single and two eps, show that this band are pretty fresh in the making. Both of their eps see them pretty much tackling the same songs but as alternative versions, so one maybe more layered up and the other one stripped down without loosing any of the charm that may well have been distilled in the songs origins.

Ultimately I feel theiy are definitely for Fans of Jesus and Marychain and Veronica Falls dream pop.

About bigjeffbristol

I am someone from Bristol in England who is deeply obsessed with live music! its pretty much like an OCD styled obsession that means pretty much every night I am out. I like being down the fron for shows, because then I can feel the music pulsing through me and I am not going to lie to you, I like to dance a lot. Which can make me at times incredibly annoying because of being 6ft4 tall with blonde curly locks so I am the Thoroughly Annoying Blonde!. and I like to preach my geeky musical inertia to people!
