/Please/ is the creation from the secretive young mind of producer Ellen Davies, her work can be in loose terms described as cinematic, full of reverb soaked drones and slow fuzzy beats. there are dfinitive nods towards the likes of Cocteau Twins, EMA and School of Seven Bells on any of her vocal tracks, as she has layered down sparse melodies which are constantly building and changing shape.
Its like as if she has a cathartic view with experimentation in which she creates some moments of petal like delicacy with how she has layered instrumental tracks up, it is almost like at times like as if she is creating a cold sound scape, as there are real glacial moments.
/Please/ I wanna Play a Ropey Outr to my Funeral
Its like as if she has taken the fuzz beats from Krautrocks drone and over layered it with at times open chorded guitars and big organs, generate a a warmth, that hugs the ears, setting things up for what I could only be described as a chilled out feeling. its like each one of her songs has a deeply hipnotic feel.
There are also elements of Jon Hopkins styled production, like the way she inadvertently ads fuzz or plays around with breaking things down. weather it be scatter shot drums or almost white noise drownings chiming from old romanticised samples. I can imagine a lot of her stuff coming out of a cave. there are at times the kind of sparse melodies you would expect to come from people like Mum.
It feels like she has covered herself fully in the love of almost a basic style production and a love of fuzz melodies with very subdued effectiveness. It would sound great in a big dark tent at a festival or in a very dark club, it would be the sort of thing where you just watch peoples facial expressions twitching. A bit like an Ulrich Schnause or a krautrock obsessed (there is actually I think a little reference to Silver Apples in one of her tracks, maybe I am barking up the wrong tree). But I think there are some great ideas /Please/ has/Please/ October is Great
